1/29 - 2/4: Online Library Catalog - KOHA

Third grade students will be taking the following assessment on Internet Safety.

Fifth grade students will use our online library catalogue- KOHA, to learn what books we have from a particular author, and locate books.

Using KOHA

Today you will be using KOHA to locate books, and information about books that might be at our school.  KOHA can be found on the homepage of any of our school’s computers.  KOHA is a library system, much like our old CATS system, or catalogue that allows users to search by author, title and subject.  Today you will be doing all three.

1.  Open KOHA.
2.  In the search box at the top, enter the author’s name: Polocco.
How many search results did it find? _____________

Hint:  Don’t Count Them!  Look at the top left, under the blue heading.

3. Refine your search to find those books only at YOUR school.
Click on your school’s library in the left column.
How many search results did it find at your school? ______________

4.  Search for the title: Junkyard Wonders.

5.  KOHA can give us information about the books we have searched.
Click on the title to go deeper into the description of the book.
Name two subjects listed in Junkyard Wonders.
Hint: Look under the title for SUBJECTS
